Blasted grassland, the thin ribbon line of the freewayunspooling beneath wheels, skies stretched widebetween mountaintop. It is dream music, foggy,atmospheric, the melodies you hear while you gazingout through fingerprint smeared windows into aconstantly moving, metamorphing - landscape.It makes sense then, that BRONCHO, born out of out afilm project, its initial incarnation sparked whenfounder Ryan Lindsey was asked to create music, toset to an early 80s punk film. Thats all I knew aboutit, he remembers, they were looking for songs thattouched this era. And songs kept coming to me andturned something on inside of me artistically. Lindseyfound himself in the midst of prolific run of songs andhe liked the idea of starting out there and seeingwhere it could go.Whats evolved from those first tracks there has been asteady run of success, critical accolades and two fulllengthalbums; 2011s Can't Get Past the Lips,2014s Just Enough Hip to Be Woman. And beneath it all the music has been constantly mutating andceaselessly experimental. From that first inception as asoundtrack in 2010, BRONCHO has taken on a life of its'own initial inspiration still there, but now pushing farbeyond the stiff confines of score. And what began asan ode to ramshackle, high-energy early punk hasbecome something deeper, weirder, and much morenuanced. The undercurrent of early 1980 punk is stillthere, but The Ramones pogo has been replaced moreoften by a kind of Love and Rockets inspired, honeyed,cotton-mouthed drift.Double Vanity is Lindsey and band mates Ben King,Nathan Price and Penny Pitchlynn steadily movingahead, transforming the raw angst of the first recordinto a sound decidedly more layered andcomplex. Tracks like New Karma" or Two Step" riff offthe later explorations of punk, culling up refractedimages of John Hughes prom nights, love songs echoingfrom a boom box held high.
