For 39 years, Balboa Park has marked the beginning of the holiday season at December Nights. This fabulous festival celebrates the season with live music, delicious food, cool attractions, and family friendly activities for visitors and locals to enjoy.
As the nation's premier holiday festival, this popular event is free to the public and features a variety of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. The park's museums, including the Fleet Science Center and the San Diego Natural History Museum, open up with complimentary admission from 5pm-9pm.
Wander through the park to enjoy festive light displays at landmarks like the Plaza de Panama and the Moreton Bay Fig Tree and see the spectacular Christmas tree at the Timken Museum of Art. Watch live entertainment like San Diego Junior Theater and the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet. Enjoy international cuisine at the International Christmas Festival then stop by the Spanish Village for unique holiday gifts.
December Nights is the largest free community festival in San Diego, hosting over 350,000 visitors during the two-day event. Because the event is so popular, navigating traffic can be a challenge. The event organizers recommend using the FREE December Nights shuttles that run from parking lots located at the City College and on Ash Street in downtown San Diego.
This year's December Nights event runs from 3pm-11pm on Friday, December 2nd and from noon-11pm on Saturday, December 3rd. Admission is free. Visit http://www.balboapark.org/decembernights/ for event details, entertainment listings and transportation information.
